You are wrong about the Oxford Mindfulness Centre – they are not a problem and are normal and not a cult but just teaching something relatively harmless. All the people involved in it are rigorous scientists so please don’t worry about that bunch. They are all into evidence based medicine. Jon Kabat Zinn who works with them works with the Dalai Lama and he thinks they are going in the right direction. Of course if you have a problem with the Dalai Lama, then that’s another issue. But the New Kadampa tradition are a bit strange and they don’t like the Dalai Lama at all. But Desmond Tutu likes the Dalai Lama so that’s good enough for me. However the NLP lot are total rubbish and you are absolutely right to be very worried about them. Bandler who invented it was tried for murder. Mary Gober who is the NLP guru employed by Marks and Spencer has completely disappeared off the internet, strangely but she is a master NLP practitioner and Master hypnotherapist. She had the whole of M&S “dancing in the aisles” in Birmingham, I was told by an HR manager at M&S. All of the M&S staff went to see her at the NEC from the whole country. M&S staff have to attend NLP motivational coaching sessions, one to one with an NLP coach, every week for about ten minutes and if you refuse to be hypnotised, you lose your job. If you refuse to be hypnotised by the State courtesey of A4E and others, you lose your benefits. Why is a medical treatment being prescribed with no medical supervision and no medical diagnosis. It is very dangerous to make hypnosis a condition of employment or benefits. It s very dangerous for politicians to prescribe hypnosis.
